A Great Topic to Talk About During the Holidays: Is College Right for Everyone?

I came across an article that specifically addressed the divide between those who think everybody should go to college and those that don’t. I’m not saying that college isn’t a great option for those who are thinking about a career in engineering, medicine and any other career that requires an advanced degree.

I’m just tired of the silence when it comes to discussing the other fantastic career choices in those areas that don’t require a four-year degree. The guidance counselors at most junior and senior high schools are focused exclusively on college. They do their students a disservice by not telling them about the excellent opportunities in careers that do not require a four-year degree -- careers in #manufacturing, for example.

Check out the link below and let me know if you agree that we must encourage more students to pursue jobs in careers that actually pay decent wages, are needed badly and offer lifelong income earning.  "Are we asking the right questions"

We cannot keep graduating more people from college who are unable to find jobs other than working at Starbucks or McDonalds. They work there trying to pay off their huge college debts while living in their parent’s basements all the while complaining that they can’t find a job in their field of study.

That’s all for this year. Keep coming back in 2014 for additional thoughts on my favorite subjects in manufacturing or other related topics.
